Why being ‘pixel perfect’ matters.
Today’s consumer expectations center on quality. Quality of design gives the impression of a professional and secure experience. Because of the amount of competition in just about every application market, if you want to be considered one of the premier players, your look and feel has to be clean and ‘pixel perfect’.
Some of the biggest conversion wins in testing come from the smallest details. Changing the color of a call-to-action button, or links can make all the difference in the world on user behavior. If your design is littered with overlapping elements, unbalanced layouts, or font issues, you cannot even take full advantage of iterative testing.
Take each page or function and be critical of every aspect of the interface.
Users will let you know through bounces, lower view times and reduced engagement actions. Pay attention. Take each page or function and be critical of every aspect of the interface. Spacing, consistency, colors and mobile optimization should be checked. Viewing on mobile can expose many issues if you don’t design for mobile first. You should also use a standard design framework for consistency so that every module or new feature you add inherits all the aspects of your branding. That will absolutely lower the amount of design issues.
Being ‘pixel perfect’ also doesn’t mean you have to hack code to get things to line up perfectly. If you have to hack your code to make something work, the code is wrong. Think of it this way, everything in it’s place and a place for everything. Simplify design, use a framework and design for mobile before desktop. There are some times where mobile isn’t important but they are few and far between.
Can’t remember where I saw this quote but someone once said “It’s not nitpicking if you want to be great.” So true because attention to detail is what differentiates you from your competitors.
Being ‘pixel perfect’ shows consumers your attention to detail starts with your initial impression. It expresses your commitment to excellence. If you care about the experience, it sets the tone for potential consumers of your products and services.
Quality matters.
